1.Behind the Scenes: Shooting Giannis Antetokounmpo and Breitling CEO Georges Kern in Athens

One of the most memorable projects I’ve had the chance to work on was capturing NBA legend Giannis Antetokounmpo and Breitling CEO Georges Kern during their epic street party in Athens. The event, held in Giannis’ hometown, was a celebration of his co-designed Signature Chronomat watch—a collaboration with Breitling.

The Event

The day was electric. Hosted by Greek star chef Sotiris Kontizas, the event brought together basketball, art, music, and celebration. Guests shot hoops, enjoyed a live DJ set, and watched artist Same84 create an incredible mural in real time. The heart of the event was Giannis himself, whose energy and authenticity lit up the streets of Athens.

The Shoot

I had the privilege of working with Diala Makki, a renowned TV host, producer, and journalist for Dubai TV, as well as her private digital platforms. The goal was to capture interviews with Giannis and Georges Kern, along with dynamic shots of the event. The content was later broadcast on Dubai TV, showcasing the fusion of luxury, sports, and culture in the heart of Athens.

A Personal Highlight

For me, the highlight of the day wasn’t just the event itself, but the moments I got to spend in Giannis’ presence. While inside the Pallas Theater, I paused to listen to him speak during another interview. He shared his story—how he grew up poor, his deep love for his family, and how Greek he feels at heart. His honesty and humility left me in awe.

Later, after we wrapped up our interview with him and Diala, I went to remove his lapel mic. I thanked him for his time, and as he turned to me, he asked:
“Έλληνας είσαι;” (Are you Greek?)
I nodded and said yes. He looked straight into my eyes, smiled, and said, “Thank you.” It was a brief but powerful moment of connection that I’ll never forget.

The Impact

This project wasn’t just about filming an event—it was about capturing the spirit of a man who has inspired millions, both on and off the court. From his humility to his passion for giving back, Giannis embodies what it means to be a legend, and I’m grateful to have been part of this unforgettable day.
